1. Turn off your water when leaving for more than 48 hours
We see this all the time. You leave for vacation. You leave to head north for the winter. You leave for a long weekend, and the next thing you know, you come home to a mess. The best way to keep a small leak from becoming a big one is to turn off the water when leaving for more than two days.
2. Be vigilante
Look for water. Look for discolored corners. Walk the outside of your house and check for puddles. Go into rooms that might not be used frequently. You want to be especially vigilant around washing machines, air conditioners, and other appliances. If you notice something, call us right away. Most homeowners wait and then have more significant problems to deal with.
3. Pay attention to slow draining and clogs
You might assume a slow drain or clog is just some hair. You keep meaning to deal with it, but hey, it's just a slow draining tub. Don't do that. 9 times out of 10, you are right, but that 10th time is something more significant. Either unclog that drain right away or call us.
4. Toilet noise
It's the middle of the night, and you hear a second of your toilet pump coming on. Then the sound is gone. This is the symptom of something. It could just be a warn flapper not sealing, or you could have a leak in the system. One is no big deal (but still needs replacing). The other needs to be fixed immediately. Don't ignore the symptom. Either start replacing parts or call a plumber to diagnose your issue. If you have any leaking pipe symptoms, call us to schedule a free estimate, 727-487-3645.
